Email Me Made on a Mac

Manila - January 2004

Kids  are  kids  wherever  you  go

In January, 2004, I was a member of

a video crew, sent to document

poverty-relief projects in Manila.

Virtually all of the places we visited

were the most poverty stricken

sections of the city, and the people

were the poorest of the poor – and

I mean that most of these families

don’t see $100 a YEAR. Yet, despite

their circumstances, the people were

great, as I’m sure you will be able to

see, because their spirit, friendliness

and positive attitude comes across

even in photos. And the kids were full

of energy and fun, and always ready

to laugh.

There will be very little text with the

photos, I just wanted to show some

of the people and a few common sites

of Manila. Mainly, I thought it would

be a treat for everyone to see the kids.

Walking into a barangay.

A barangay is like a neighborhood,

but is more than that. Each has its

own structure, unofficial leaders

and community government.

Basketball is HUGE in the Philippines. Everywhere you

go you’ll see some type of makeshift basketball court.
