Alaskan Cruise — May 2013
Setting off from Seattle — Sunday
To begin our cruise, we flew to Seattle.
Our cruise line, Holland-America, and I
would guess every cruise company, is
extremely well-organized. They have
employees everywhere at the airport to
direct their arriving passengers to the
buses that will transport them to the
ships. it would be virtually impossible
to mess up and miss your connection.
Near the buses, we had a short wait
while they coordinated how many
people needed to get to which pier.
Here are Sally and D, my dear
friends, and gracious hosts,
having a snack while waiting
for our bus.
You see that the Holland-America
agent has already assigned us to
the “Green team,” so we simply
had to listen for our color to be
called out, and then be directed
to the bus that would get us to
the correct pier.
Nothing could have been a better 70th birthday present, in May of 2013, than to be invited to share a week with my great friends, Sally and D. And, as frosting on the cake, to have that week spent on an Alaskan cruise — a new experience for me!.
The only real pain in the neck was the LONG wait in line to get
through the security check—true both to get on the ship as
well as on the planes. But we eventually got aboard the good
ship Oosterdam, feeling fine, and ready to start our cruise!
Before sailing, I had the chance to shoot a
photo of Seattle’s famous “Space Needle.”
I even took a shot of myself, with the
land disappearing in the background.
And once we began steaming away, around 4:30 p.m., I got a long shot of Seattle’s skyline.
Out into Puget Sound, we were on our way!
