Troyer’s – Our local Mennonite market

1

Troyers is just a couple miles down the road. It’s a little local market, sort of our

version of a 7-Eleven, owned and operated by Mennonites. The young women who

wait on the customers are always friendly, and the prices are right.

It's more than a store; it's an experience!

During the nice weather, people often

like coming out on the porch to eat their

snacks, or sip a drink, and relax a while.

The lucky ones get to enjoy the rockers.

I believe that one should respect cultural differences, so I've often debated with myself whether I should suggest that they word the upper sign on their door differently, since this one doesn't stop insensitive people from coming in dressed as they please.

I once saw a big fat guy walk in wearing nothing more than a pair of short shorts, with his gigantic beer belly bulging over top. Even I was offended at the sight of him; I can't imagine what the young women must have been feeling. It was after that incident that they added the extra sign, "SHIRT & SHOES REQUIRED."

They have a nice deli counter with lunch meats and cheeses. The assortment is pretty good, and they always have daily specials. You can take it home or they will make you a sandwich to eat right here. During the winter you can also get a bowl of homemade chili with lots of beans and big chunks of beef.

They were waiting for their meat

deliveries on the particular day I came

in to take pictures. The meat cooler is

usually crowded with a much bigger

selection.

But the cheese cooler was in it's usual

well-stocked state.
