When I was in the midst of my transition from Chicago to Tennessee, I didn’t have time to put anything together to show the process. Now, 4 years later, nobody may even care. BUT I have all these pictures clogging up my computer, so before I just say “to heck with it” and toss them all out, I’m making a web site. (I also wanted to check out this web construction software that came with my new computer and it’s 60-day free trial offer of web space, so this seemed the ideal way to do that.)

I had bought the house earlier and it was being built at the factory and would be delivered when ready. Also, I had hired a local contractor to prepare the site and set up the house when it arrived. In the final month, while I was packing up my Chicago apartment, a lot was going on in Tennessee. My sister, Andrea, and brother-in-law, Don, in addition to monitoring the activity down here, were documenting the progress in photos.

On April 4th, 2005, the first prep work was begun. The first task was to level the site.

By the end of the day, the site was ready.

These days they have nifty laser devices that take the guesswork out of the leveling process.

The next day, the footings were dug out and the concrete poured.

And, in accordance with the long-standing tradition associated with fresh concrete, brother-in-law, Don, inscribed my name on my behalf.

I had come here earlier in the year––during my medical leave from work––and staked out how I wanted the house to face on the location we had agreed upon. They followed my outline.
