A person would have to try really hard to dislike the Chickadees; their are such cute and friendly little

birds that are around all year round. Although you have to become very familiar with them in order to see

the difference, down here in Tennessee we don’t have the Black-capped Chickadee, but its close cousin the

Carolina Chickadee (Poecile carolinensis). In fact, they can’t tell each other apart and will interbreed when

they come in contact.

I really love these first two shots of the

birds perched on the feeders in the snow.

It’s another of my feeder-meetings photos. In this case, both birds were watching me,

and the Downy Woodpecker wasn’t even aware that the Carolina Chickadee was there!

Even if I’m not watching, I know when

one of the birds comes to the feeder,

because they always announce their

arrival with a rapid chick-a-dee-dee-dee!
