And this is a separate color stage
that the males go through. It’s
called the 1st Autumn Plumage, a
mixture of male and female colors.
This young fellow arrived at
my feeder on 7 October 2010.

This male is also very young – probably about a year
old...he has the full male coloration, but he obviously
needs a few more years to develop that large, bold
rose breast that the breeding males possess, like the
mature male on the previous page.
