Bob’s Backyard Birds
Bob’s Backyard Birds

Here’s a Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata – 10JAN2010) raising his head to swallow a
seed. These usually feed on the ground, but occasionally they will use a feeder.
Some folks don’t like Blue Jays because they are noisy and tend to bully other
birds. But, since they aren’t bullying me, I just enjoy seeing how pretty they are.
The Blue Jays really enjoyed my
improvised bird bath. It’s the cover
of a large plastic storage box that I
turned upside down and filled with
water. It was having it on the ground
that made the difference, and quite a
number of birds, mostly the larger
ones, loved taking a bath in it.

This was pretty nifty,
watching this bird flip
the seeds up into the
air and then catch
them in its bill. I
watched a Blue Jay do
the same thing with
acorns on the ground.
