Bob’s Backyard Birds

Unfortunately, I don’t have good photos of hawks. I include this page just because they are all around

and I see them every day, but they are difficult to get close to, at least for me. In all the time that

I’’ve been here, the only shot that I’ve gotten of a mature hawk was the very first bird photo that I

took; and that happened because the adult Broad-winged Hawk landed right outside the window just

after I moved into my home. I grabbed my camera and snapped one shot before it took off again, and

this is the shot that I got.

The group below are all very long shots of juvenile Broad-wings

out in the meadow playing and practicing being hawks.

And this young hawk actually made a very inept attempt to grab one of the birds at my

feeder. He missed miserably, but then stayed around the house for a few minutes...maybe

wondering why those potential prey didn’t come back to give him another shot at them!

Naturally, he would make his appearance just as the sun was going down, and I had no

light to expose a decent photo. I lightened these as much as I could, but they are pretty

terrible.
