really gorgeous Cardinal female.
I set up a special “photographic blind” in the window of my utility room where
I could aim my camera at this feeder from just the width of my porch. This
meant that I could stay indoors, in any weather, and still get some photos!

I tried an experiment in getting the birds to come closer to me in 2012. I made
a small, 10x6-inch, platform feeder to slip over the railing of my back porch.
Some birds, like the
Chipping Sparrows, had no
fear, and visited the
feeder right away. For
other birds, like the
Cardinal seen here, it was
several weeks before they
would venture so near to
the house. But eventually,
nearly all the birds got
comfortable with it and
came regularly.
